Current research supports the inclusion of both parents and children in the treatment of anxiety in children based on the strong correlation between anxious parents and the subsequent development of anxiety in their children. This workshop will describe seven concrete strategies that teach families to interrupt the worry cycle and its all too common transmission from parent to child.

Educational Objectives:

1. Identify the biggest myths, misconceptions, and mistakes that parents make when dealing with childhood fears and phobias.
2. List the seven core treatment principles that can be successfully applied to any anxiety-related problem.
3. Defend the therapeutic instruction to become unsure and uncomfortable on purpose.

Lynn Lyons, LICSW, is a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist who lives in Concord, New Hampshire and is in private practice there. For 26 years, Lynn has specialized in the treatment of anxiety disorders in adults and children. Lynn received her BA in English from Williams College in 1987, her Masters in Social Work from Boston University in 1990, and has been training extensively with the world’s experts in clinical hypnosis and strategic therapy since 1993.
